In July 1979, the Motor Sich plant began manufacturing the compact turbofan engines of the R95-300 family. 
These engines, developed by the ANTK "Soyuz" design bureau under the leadership of O.N. Favorsky, were designed for various missile platforms. The initial models were tailored for installation on the following cruise missiles:
